I DON'T WANT THEM TO GET ME (a poem)

A few months ago while I was searching for a wiring diagram I needed in order to put together a power supply for an old mixing board, I uncovered a poem I almost forgot I'd written.  I read it, laughed, remembered a bunch of stuff, and then thought "I should totally put that on the blog, it would be hilarious."  I then proceeded to do exactly not that for about seven months.  I found it again next to the bed today, and since I've been pretty inactive blogwise for a while I figured it's probably about time I did that thing I actually intended to do a while ago.

(And just so you know, the novel's going great.  In fact I finished another chapter just last night.  So there, I DO have a valid excuse.  Take that, crippling sense of guilt!  I don't need you anymore!)

Anyway, here it is.

I DON'T WANT THEM TO GET ME
(a poem)

I went through almost
an entire loaf of bread today
It wasn't very filling
but at least
it had an even number
of slices

and I didn't have to leave
the house.
